These double doors are found at the top of a stairway at the juncture of the 1854 and 1883 wings. Because there was no electricity when the stairway was installed, the glass inserts allowed lighting for the stairs. The doors open onto the 3rd floor porch of the courtyard. When the 1883 wing was built, it effectively formed the 4th side of the courtyard.
