Made in Lyon, France, the statue arrived at the Motherhouse in the early 1860s. When Holy Family chapel was completed in 1899, Mary was moved to a specially designed alcove there. Above the statue is a glass dome. Wheat and grapes, symbols of the Holy Eucharist, are found in the decorative plaster work by interior designer Joseph Sibbel.
